Respect - this is a big word. Does chess teach us to be respectful? Yes, it does. First of all, we must have respect for the game, by respecting its rules otherwise we get disqualified and cannot play anymore. Secondly, we must respect our partner, by restraining from doing anything that would cause him annoyance during the game, like chewing the gum, moving the pieces with a superior attitude or kicking him under the table. Presenting yourself gentle and nicely perfumed shows your respect for the person next to you. It is easy to understand how to relate to others if you commit to treat them the way you would like to be treated by them. In the third place, respect is a key to play well all throughout the game, by being humble enough to consider every move of your adversary, to patiently think through and calculate at every step in order to choose the right way to continue. It is similar to life if you will. You must have respect for life, the wonderful gift of God, in order to live peacefully and according to God's prescribed principles of love for a well ordered living, full of purpose and significance and consequently full of accomplishments. We must respect ourselves and the people next to us, starting with our own family. Respect will not only help you discipline into becoming a better chess player, but it will help you become a more responsible citizen, respecting your God, your nation, your community, your friends, your job, your talents, the nature, the animals etc. Respect is a great aim and a mark of a well built, healthy character that lays a foundation for future success. Be respectful, people will notice you and doors will open up for you!
